چکیده
.&sTRU.T.-Suitable host fishes were identified for two species of freshwater mussels (Unionidae) from the Coosa River drainage, Mobile Basin: Lampsili~ altilis, the fine-lined pocketbook and I’illosn vi/xx, the southern rainbow. Suitable hosts are defined as fishes that produce juvenile mussels from glochidial infestations in the laboratory. Larvae of both L . nltzlis and I! z&x transformed successfully on four species of sunfishes (Centrarchidae): Lepomis cyrrrllrc.s, Aficr-optprus coo~fzc, ,M. punctulnttcs and ,M. vnlmozrlrs. For both mussel species transformation success on I.. ynrllur was highly variable and generally lower than on Micropterus spp. C;ravid female 1.. altzlz~ and C! &PX display highly modified mantle margin lures in the early spring. In addition to displaying mantle lures, I.. altilis produce superrongllitinates, similar to those recently described for three other species of Lnmpsilic in the southeastern U.S.

متن کاملCross-resistance of largemouth bass to glochidia of unionid mussels.
We tested whether host fish that acquired resistance to glochidia of one mussel species were cross-resistant to glochidia of other species. Largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) were primed with 4-5 successive infections of glochidia of Lampsilis reeveiana. The percentage of attached glochidia that survived and transformed to the juvenile stage (transformation success) was compared between pr...
متن کاملOccurance of Gyrodactylus spp (Monogenea: Gyrodactylidae) from Iranian freshwater fishes
Thirty three Gyrodactylus spp have been found on the gills and body surface of both wild and farmed freshwater fishes in Iran. Among them nine species have been identified up to the species level, which are new locality records. The identification of the others, mainly belong to endemic wild freshwater fishes, need further studies. Among the known species, Gyrodactylus derjavini (Mikhailov, 197...
